When a couple bought a home in Bethesda, Maryland, before they even moved in they called the team at ecobeco for a complete remodel and reconfiguration so that the new space would better suit their needs.
New Home Upgrades for a Young Family
The home, located in a great neighborhood in Bethesda, was older but well maintained. The last updates, however, had been done over twenty years ago and were starting to look outdated.
The couple who purchased the home simply wanted to make the space more functional for themselves and their daughter. Their finished basement already had one bedroom and bathroom, so they decided to focus their remodel on the first and second floors — the vast majority of the home’s square footage — with a budget of $200,000.
Kitchen, Pantry, Powder Room & Living Space Remodel
The existing kitchen was dark and didn’t provide as much storage as the homeowners wanted. We completely gutted the kitchen and reconfigured the downstairs to add a mudroom, a powder room, and create a walk-in pantry. The expansion of the kitchen allowed us to create a built-in banquette and a built-in office area that adds even more storage and function to the new, fresh, and light space.
As healthy home experts, we also moved their cooking range against a wall to enhance the effectiveness of the range hood (this is the ventilation fan over their cooking range – see our previous blog “Are Islands for Cooking or Eating”. Cooking byproducts are typically the largest source of particle pollution in the home.)
We added a french door to replace the bay window, which adds even more light and offers easy access to an existing deck. Wide-plank hardwood floors were added throughout the first floor, as well as the second floor to create a cohesive look which makes the space seem even larger.
Upstairs Master Suite, Bedroom & Bathroom Renovation
Upstairs on the second floor, the couple wanted to turn the four bedrooms into three so that the master suite and bedroom for their daughter could be expanded. Upstairs, we reconfigured the walls to expand the bedrooms and create an expansive walk-in closet for the master suite, as well as a Jack and Jill bathroom.
We also redesigned the master bathroom and used white Carrara marble, a custom glass shower enclosure, and electric heated floors to provide the luxurious, classic, and timeless look the couple wanted.
